THE SOFTER SIDE OF SILICA
The Softer Side is a collection of siliceous art made in collaboration with glass artist, Charles Hall: wheel-thrown porcelain and tailored glass forms. SiO2 (silica) when fused is glass and is as well a major component of ceramics. These 'Pillow Forms' are collaborative explorations of the softer side of silica. The porcelain forms rest on rounds of felted angora nestled in blown glass pillows. The depressions in the pillows are custom made by gently pressing a porcelain vessel on a freshly blown orb to level the surface and create a nesting area. The hollow porcelain forms are first made on the wheel, then subtly squared. The assemblages range in size from 4" - 7" high and 3" - 5" wide.
