RESEARCH - Fulbright Fellowship to Indonesia

In 1999, I was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Indonesia to study the intersection of art, culture and ritual with a focus on ceremonial terracottas. I based my research on the island of Bali - working with artists, potters and religious (Hindu) offerings experts in the towns/villages of Ubud and Pengosekan. It was a tremendous experience - one that set me firmly on a course of intentional art-making. I returned to Bali in 2002 on an American Ceramic Circle grant to document local Balinese potters and ceremonial ceramics (you can read my ACC Journal article here).

I was fortunate to be able to return again in 2015 with my husband and young daughter for 5 weeks. So much had changed but thankfully, I was able to reconnect with all of my Balinese teachers and friends and enjoy the beauty and magic of the island once again.
