The rims of my earthenware cups are often chunky and uneven - revealing the natural process marks of the stretched and folded clay. When still damp, the cup is dipped in a pink 'slip' (liquid clay bath) then other colors are layered on top and the drawings are etched through the slip to reveal the rich, brown clay body.
